More control for demanding workloads
Understand VPS resources and responsibilities before choosing your server.

What is a VPS?
A VPS, or Virtual Private Server, is a virtual machine running on a physical server. Virtualization separates environments so each machine can run its own operating system and use the resources defined by its plan. It gives you more software control than standard shared hosting.
Private means a separated environment, not sole ownership of the physical hardware or necessarily dedicated CPU cores. Review the provider’s resource allocation terms.
One physical server, separate virtual machines
Each VPS has its own environment, while underlying networking, storage and hardware may still be shared. This illustrates the general concept rather than the exact architecture of every plan.
Shared Hosting, VPS or Dedicated?
Shared Hosting
Easy to start, with core system management by the provider. Suitable for standard websites, but software and configuration choices are limited.
VPS
A virtual machine with more administrative control, useful for custom software or configurations. Resource planning and system maintenance still matter.
Dedicated Server
An entire physical server for workloads needing more control or capacity, with greater cost and administration requirements.
Choose for the workload
A VPS does not automatically make a site faster. Inefficient code, large images and slow database queries still need attention.
What can you use a VPS for?
- Growing websites: More resources or concurrent users; measure CPU, memory and database demand first.
- Web applications and APIs: Custom software or configuration; check supported operating systems.
- Business systems and background jobs: Restrict access and plan backups for internal data and scheduled work.
- Test environments: Keep development separate from production to reduce the impact of experiments.
Understand VPS specifications
CPU / vCPU
Processes application requests and jobs. Core count alone does not determine performance; allocation and workload matter.
RAM
Used by the operating system, applications and databases. Insufficient memory can cause swapping or processes to stop.
Storage
Holds the OS, websites, databases, logs and backups. Allow room for growth and monitor free space.
Bandwidth / Transfer
Bandwidth is the data rate; transfer is the amount moved. Unlimited transfer does not mean unlimited speed.
What comes with root access?
Root is powerful administrative access: it can install, change or delete critical system components. Limit access to responsible administrators, use strong authentication and back up before configuration changes.
- Update the OS and software and use supported releases.
- Configure a firewall, expose only necessary ports and restrict SSH and user permissions.
- Monitor CPU, memory, disk and logs.
- Keep independent file and database backups and test restoration.
- Confirm managed/unmanaged responsibilities. A control panel does not automatically include full application management.
Prepare before launching
- List application versions and supported operating systems.
- Choose resources and confirm the control panel; the 30GB plan excludes a control panel and admin user.
- Plan domains, DNS, HTTPS, firewall rules and administrators.
- Migrate and test before changing production DNS.
- Launch with connectivity, security and backup checks.
